ABOUT US

Ben Lau Dance MOVEMENT

BLDM is founded by Benedict Lau, principal of Ben Lau Dance since the 2000s. By 2005 the studio moved to its present premises establishing itself as the cosy studio with turquoise blue doors in the old conservation section of Tiong Bahru estate. As the needs of students and the community evolved over the years towards health and wellness, Benedict saw a clear need to innovate. The rebranding of Ben Lau Dance into BLDM takes the studio (company) forward towards a stronger focus on health and living better, creating more access to both dance and  thematic movement classes and opportunities for learners of all abilities and ages to learn, practice and socialize.

BENEDICT LAU, FOUNDER

Benedict Lau, founder of BLD Movement wants to spark joy and uplift lives through dance.

After graduating as an engineer, Benedict decided to follow his dream of becoming a professional dancer. He succeeded in becoming a 4 times champion in ballroom and latin dance and has represented his country, Malaysia, internationally.

Today, dance remains the heartbeat that drives Benedict’s energy and creativity as a teacher. His experience teaching people of all ages and abilities over 25 years, coupled with the knowledge we have today about the medical benefits of dance, has convinced him that dancing is no trivial entertainment, but actually makes living better. Benedict’s fun and innovative teaching methods developed with movement therapists and like-minded collaborators, go beyond merely teaching dance steps. Because moving well means living better, Benedict believes that dance is for everyone and not just those who can dance. He wants to spread that message
